The 2010 Mountain Flower Art Festival is scheduled for

Saturday & Sunday, May 15 & 16, 2010 from 10am - 5pm

The Mountain Flower Art Festival, is inviting artists to submit on line applications for consideration to be included in the Mountain Flower Art Festival, May 15 & 16, 2010. The MF Art Festival is a juried fine art and fine craft festival located on the historic square of Dahlonega, GA., and does not include any food vendors. A fine arts festival has been held on the 3rd weekend in Dahlonega for 20 years.

This year look for the festival to include more interactive events and opportunities to learn about the wild world around us. The Dahlonega Master Gardeners will be presenting a plant sale and expo at Hancock Park in conjunction with the arts festival.

The Festival is being produced by the Dahlonega Merchants Association and sponsored by the Dahlonega Arts Council.

Submission Requirements

As a general rule, any 2 or 3D original artwork created by artist submitting work.

Art will be judged according to the following:

  • Must be original and handcrafted.
  • Artists in Dahlonega Bear on the Square Festival are not eligible
  • Exhibit excellence in craftsmanship & design
  • Must be original in design, or a historical reproduction and not made by using a commercially available kit or pattern
  • Objects classified as handmade when made by using hand tools or hand directed machine tools (such as lathe, sewing machine or potters wheel), and at least 80% of the object is handmade (example: lamp base is handmade, but lamp shade is commercial)
  • We discourage the use of store bought objects as the primary base of work. An example would be buying a wooden chair and painting it, or buying beads and stringing them together. Jewelry must contain some items that are handcrafted by artist - polish stones, fused glass, settings or clasps.

Criteria used to evaluate entries will include original handcrafted art & craft, created by the artist, quality of craftsmanship. All work must be handmade by the artist submitting the application. Only product types presented for the jury process can be sold at the festival.

The number of spaces will be limited at our festival. The festival intends to present a full cross section of art & craft media.

Artwork to be considered is: Original 2D & 3D artwork, painting, water color, photography, pottery, basket making, weaving/fiber arts etc. All must be original and fine quality.

Fees

  • $120 for a 10’x10’ space for two days
  • $200 for a 10’x20’ space for two days

Plus: $10 Jury Fee (non-refundable) paid separately.

Everyone must pay the jury fee or your application will not be reviewed.

Please include two separate checks, one for space fee and one for $10 jury fee (non-refundable along with a self addressed stamped envelope (SASE). When you submit your application, you will receive mailing instructions for payment.

Prizes

  • Best of Show prize will be awarded, a $250 cash prize first place.
  • $100 cash prize second place.
  • $50 cash prize third place.

Deadline

All entry request forms must be received no later than April 15, 2010. Responses will be sent back no later than 4/21/10. It is suggested that Tents be white.

Submission of Work

Photos must be submitted, and show a minimum of three pieces representative of the artist's work to be offered at the festival.When you submit your application, you will receive instructions for mailing in your entry fees.
