Hello, and Welcome to Dahlonega, Georgia!

Dahlonega Gold Museum

We’re so happy that you’re interested in our community. The merchants and business owners of Dahlonega would like to invite you all to Shop, Dine and Discover Dahlonega. Dahlonega is such a special place, with special people working every day to preserve the history and look brightly into the future. Our merchants work closely together to provide you with a truly enjoyable shopping experience. In Dahlonega, you’re not just visiting a historic town, you’re stepping back in time and visiting shops and galleries that have been evolving since the early 1800’s. Our buildings are all on the National Historic Registry, and if you ask, the locals will be more than happy to share the stories of individual structures, businesses, and people. Dahlonega is full of legends, tall tales and historical stories, and the people here are very in tune with the past, present and future of North Georgia, and our place in history.

Dahlonega Street

Dahlonega was the site of the first American Gold Rush, and many books have been written about the “Rush” when a man named Benjamin Parks stumbled upon a nugget of gold. The latest book is by Anne Amerson, “Dahlonega’s Gold,” which is Ms. Amerson's first work of historical fiction. You can find this book in shops around the Square, along with her other non-fiction books, a series called: I Remember Dahlonega.

Today as in the past, it’s not only the history of Dahlonega that is so special. It’s the people who stumbled upon this wonderful little mountain town, and became enthralled with the significance of the mountains, the history and the town itself, specifically the historic Dahlonega Square. These are the people who have made the decision to spend their futures here, and hopefully eek out a living, much like the settlers before them. Some of the eclectic collection of people can be found in our business directory: merchants and business owners who fell in love with this community, and do their best every day to share only the best with our guests.

Dahlonega Merchants

Dahlonega is a thriving community of the arts: rich in music, art, wine, fine dining, bed and breakfasts, and theater. The biggest complaint I hear is that people who come wish they had more time to enjoy it all. With this in mind, I encourage you to plan a weekend. Bring the family, a group of friends, or plan for romance and sneak away, just the two of you. We are only 60 miles North of Atlanta, but are worlds away from the hustle and bustle and stress of city living. Whether you come for a day, a weekend, or a lifetime, I’m sure you’ll find that it’s the people who are the real gold, just as Ann says in her book.

Our guests are so important to us, and we’re so happy to know that you’re considering coming to visit us soon. Be sure to peruse the business listings and visit our websites. We have a wonderful assortment of small local businesses who are looking forward to providing state of the art selections, personal customer services, and of course, a story or two! If you do fall in love with our community, you’re sure to find that you’ll be welcomed back with open arms, as you, too, are an important part of our story!

Thank you for visiting and come see us!
